Bulil International Zen Center was opened in 1973 when Great Monk Gusan who was the first Zen master of the Jogye monsatic teaching center brings in his disciple, Monk Hyeonjo. Until now more than 400 monks from all over the world such as the United States, England, France,

Canada, Australia, Finland, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Hongkong, China, and Japan have made an effort in the center and got back. Meditation and effort is made at the same time with Korean monks in the center.

First of all, he or she should have a precept awarded from any country to enter the Bulil International Zen Center. And he or she should have a visa permitting him or her to stay and make an effort for three-month retreat season as Korean monks do. Another way is to renunciate to Songgwang-sa and to become a monk after living the life of a novice.
