¡®Seonna' in China by employing the pronunciation of Sanskrit ¡®dhyana' and by abbreviating it to ¡®Zen', and its meaning is ¡®meditate solemnly' or ¡®practice with wise attention'. To be in deep thought and to be in mental concentration are translated as ¡®concentration' or ¡®tranquility of mind' by combining the meaning and the pronunciation.
Deep thought and mental concentration cannot be exclusive possession of a specific denomination of Buddhism. Practice with wise attention of Indian Buddhism is a fundamental factor extending into Buddhism at large, and it is considered that wisdom is to be opened by this practice with wise attention.
